Over the past few months there has been a trend emerging on the red carpet that I have taken particular notice of, and that is bare backs. The last time we have seen such an emergence of backless garments was when Kate Hudson won the hearts of fashionistas everywhere with her backless yellow gown in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Ever since the fabulous Jennifer Lawrence showed up at her premiere for the Hunger Games rocking a fabulous black backless number, celebs soon began to follow in her fashion foot steps.
Considering none of us normal folk are probably heading down a red carpet anytime soon, this look can be a little tricky for day to day wear, but never impossible! Baring your tanned back can be a great look for summer, as long as you do it correctly! When showing that much skin, you always want to remember balancing your look. If you are donning a backless piece, make sure that it has a modest neckline. Also, avoid going all black with this look during the day, as that can translate as too sexy… aim for pastels and pretty colors/prints instead.
Here are three fun backless pieces that could be perfect for a summer day!
- 6 Shore Road Bustier Mini Dress: Floral prints are going to be big this summer, so this fun pleated backless mini dress will be the perfect look for a hot sunny day! For the full look, try pairing it with tan wedges and an oversized envelope clutch in a bright color!
- Brian Lichtenberg Backless Silk Top: If your style is a bit more on the funky side, this backless silk top would look great paired with some torn up denim shorts, simple flats ,and a slouchy bag.
- Pins and Needles Backless Lace Dress: This adorable lace frock is one of my favorite dresses around right now. Not only do I adore the plunging back, but Seafoam green is one of the best color choices for the coming months. I could totally see myself wearing this to Sunday brunch with some tan strappy sandals and a coral handbag.
