We’re thrilled to introduce you to our new in-house makeup expert, Janae. By day, Janae keeps everything here at Julep HQ running smoothly from her perch at our very busy front desk (she’s literally the face of Julep!) but by night/on the weekends, she is a makeup artist extraordinaire, helping her many clients look the part for special occasions like weddings, proms, and editorial photo shoots. We’re so lucky to have her as part of the Julep team—and not just because she gives us free advice on how to tame our brows and get the perfect smoky eye.
In the coming months, Janae is going to be sharing her expertise in all things beauty here on the Julep blog, with helpful tips and full-on makeup tutorials just for us! (Hint, hint: One of those tutorials is coming up shortly, just in time for your big 4th of July party.)
But first, we wanted do a little digital meet and greet with our new makeup guru and share some photos of her past work. Take it away, Janae:
What is your beauty background?
I am a certified makeup artist and licensed esthetician. I have been in the industry for 9 years. I trained at Makeup Designory (MUD) and the Newberry School of Beauty in Los Angeles, California.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would describe my style as Boho Glam. You’ll find me shopping at Urban Outfitters and Nordstrom. I love to layer, stay on trend, and accessorize. I change up my makeup from day to day depending on my outfit, occasion, the season, or my mood. That’s the best part about makeup, you can try something different every day. I encourage all my clients to step out of the box and try that new lipstick or eyeshadow they’ve been eyeing!
What are the top 3 items you always have in your makeup bag?
No matter what, I always have lipstick, a lash curler, and a brow pencil. Oh and candy! Makeup and candy are my two must-haves!
What is your favorite Julep product & why?
My favorite Julep product is the Glow Pore-Minimizing Blush in Peach Bellini. It works for almost all skin tones, has diamond powder in it, and gives a hint of luminous shimmer for a natural summer glow.
What is your favorite beauty trend for summer?
Bright lips! I recommend everyone try an orange or coral lip this summer. It goes great with your bronzed summer skin. (Via spray tan, of course. Always make sure to wear sunscreen, wink!)
Any advice on how we should be transitioning our beauty routines for summer?
My advice for summer is have fun with your makeup! Summer is the perfect time to experiment and try out new looks, new products, and learn about brushes! A good brush will change the way you apply your makeup and how it looks.
Who is your ultimate beauty icon and why?
I have a few beauty icons that I love for their fashion, makeup, and hair. They would have to be Rachel Zoe, Lauren Conrad, Jennifer Lopez, and the Olsen twins.
Welcome, Janae! Stay tuned for her first makeup tutorial next week. It’s definitely J.Lo-approved.
