Rated 4 out of 5 by mermaidssing from Excellent but overpriced If you're used to kaolin masks, the consistency of this one will take some getting used to. It goes on like tar, and you need to apply fast because while it dries it can flake away if you touch it, so joining an already applied area to a newly applied area can be tricky. It dries to a rubber-like finish (it does not contain latex), and peels off easily. There's no discernible smell. Peel-offs add a whole other layer of fun to my spa mask days, and what didn't come off in one long strip was easily washed off with a little warm water. I could see the imprint my pores and some ick on the mask when I peeled it off, showing that it does actually yank that stuff out. A few moments after washing my face, I saw small pimples that had been developing rising to a head, the yuck having been pulled to the surface by the mask. That's exactly what I hoped it would do, and while this mask doesn't seem to exfoliate, my skin looked smoother afterwards. I could see developing blemishes to spot treat them, and the next morning, my skin was mostly pimple-free -- not bad for my worst skin day in the month. My biggest gripe is that you get a small amount for the price. Because of the consistency, you need to apply a moderate layer for best results, and I think the tube will be used up in three or four applications. While I love the product, I need to find a similar one that is less expensive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Miyani from Enjoying this way more than I expected Got this in my Modern Beauty box, of course, and put it on as soon as I got home. It's been off for an hour at this point. Cons: the tube is good for about 3 applications? MAYBE four, if you don't make the mistake of following the directions the first time. The Maven price helps, but I would not pay $32 every two to three weeks for this. Maybe every six weeks. Just because of the thickness of it, there's also a lot of wastage during application. I ended up with at least a full cheek's worth stuck to my palm and fingers. Pros: This stuff is fun! It's tarry and goopy and you look like a monster. I have VERY sensitive skin, and while I noticed some tingling a few minutes in, there was none of the pain that I usually get with masks. Even the "soothing" kind. Now it's been an hour, and there's a little residual redness and tenderness, but it's already calming. Also, my skin is super smooth, and while I did use moisturizer, I didn't need it as much as I do with just regular face washing. I'll wait to see how my skin does in the next couple of days, I'm very breakout prone, but so far I'm impressed. I will say, do NOT follow the directions and apply a generous layer. Make it complete, but THIN. And turn the AC on. Mine peeled perfectly after 23 minutes in the thinner spots, but I was left with black goop in the thicker areas, and the places where my upper lip sweated a little. All in all, I would say the pros far outweigh the cons for me. Because of the cost and the amount provided, I won't be using as often as they recommend, but I will be buying it again, I really like it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by alamod from nice! At first I was under the impression that this mask was supposed to exfoliate, but quickly realized that it was too gentle to do that. This mask is super black, and super fun to apply - my husband and I enjoyed putting it on side by side - half way into it, I looked like I had a beard and a mustache, and (since he has a beard) he looked like he was wearing the mask of Zorro lol. It peels off very smoothly and after washing with bare face cleansing oil, my skin was baby soft. The last time I remember my skin being this soft was when I was 14 :) After using Julep products for over a year, I have come to love pretty much everything they come out with and their commitment to quality!

Rated 3 out of 5 by NumLock from It's was interesting. I love peel off masks, so I couldn't resist adding this to my October box. My first thought on getting it was that it was a bit smaller than what I was expecting, especially for the price I paid. Putting it on is a real challenge. It's really tacky and gooey, as you apply it to your skin, it can peel off prematurely. You need to apply a somewhat thick layer, but not too thick, otherwise it will be horribly to peel off. To make it worse, it sticks horribly to your fingers and it's awful if you get it stuck under your nails. ew! I left it on for 25 minutes and it peeled off like a dream. Skin felt really soft and smooth but didn't see much of an effect otherwise. Was sort of hoping it would try to suck up my blackheads. All I needed was a few swipes of toner afterwards and I was good to go. Not a bad product, just messy and I didn't see enough of a payout for the expense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Taylor from MY SKIN IS SO SOFT I just got the mask in the mail today, and I just had to try it right away. I had never used a peel-off mask before, so I wasn't expecting it to feel so sludgy. It almost feels like latex or wax when you apply it, cause it's so thick and a bit sticky. I left it on for about 20 minutes, and then it peeled right off! My skin just felt sooooo soft after I couldn't believe it! Most masks I've used have left my face feeling really tight and kind of dry, but this one left me feeling really hydrated! I had to wash my face after to get the little straggler pieces that didn't peel off, but even after using a salicylic acid face wash, my face still feels really hydrated. I will most definitely purchase this again once I run out!
