POLISH FINISHES

Crème

The most classic finish. Glossy, smooth, easy to apply.

Matte

Rich, flat color. No gloss or shine whatsoever.

Suede

A matte-metallic finish with texture and and micro-glitter.

Glitter

Big, easy-to-see sparkle flakes. Glitter polish is textural, for smoother, use a top coat.

Micro-glitter

The same amount of sparkle as Glitter, but smaller flakes. Best for layering over color.

Shimmer

For nails that twinkle. A base of color and tiny flakes of shimmer mixed into one bottle.

Frost

Also known as pearlescent. Icy-toned shine, visible brush strokes.

Holographic

Tiny rainbow colored flakes in the polish. Best seen in sunlight.

Opalescent

This finish glistens like the inside of a sea shell.

Molten

Also called duochrome. Color changes between two or more hues depending on the angle of looking at it.

Metallic

Shiny, metal-looking finish. Most popular in golds, silvers, and coppers.

Crackle

A layering polish. Creates a shattered texture look when put on top of another color.

Chrome

A smooth, almost mirror-like metallic shine.

    1. Start with a base coat. This protects your nails from damage and staining, and creates a smooth base for your nail polish.

    2. Apply nail polish in thin layers, and give each coat time to dry before applying the next. This helps your color dry evenly and quickly.

    3. To extend the life of your manicure, start each layer by sealing your free edges. Lightly brush nail polish across the edge and under the tip of each nail.

    4. To make your nail polish pop, apply a layer of white polish between the base coat and color.

    5. Finish with a top coat to protect your nail polish against chips. Reapply every couple of days to keep your manicure looking fresh.

    We love it with...

Alfre - Classic with a Twist is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Color! I am in love with this colour! It's a subtle, sophisticated, slightly greyed purple, very suitable for professional dress if you wish. I did a "French Tip" effect by adding Glam Roc, which almost exactly matches it, so the overall effect continues to be subtle but really beautiful. I highly recommend this colour - don't be put off if you don't normally do purples - this one is amazing. (two coats required - first one will appear a bit streaky but second coat makes it a perfect finish)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice Colour but Poor Formula I love the colour and will definitely use it in the future, but it is very difficult to work with. I had an idea that it would be thick based on the picture but not this bad! The formula was very thick and tacky thus super hard to paint with it. It also started to dry before I could finish my first coat making it even more difficult to work with. Julep, I really like you and your colours and a number of your formulas, but a lot of your formulas need to be fine tuned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE this one!! I was hesitant buying this one as I was afraid it would be too dark, but I fell in love with it from the moment I put it on! Unlike KelseyB, my bottle of polish was fine.Mine went on smoothly and lasted close to 1 week.I do find that I get the odd polish from Julep that is very thick and gooey but with adding nail polish thinner they are fine.I do tend to add a LOT more than the 2 to 3 drops the bottle says to add. Depending on how thick the polish is, I might START with 12 drops and if the polish is STILL thick I just repeat until it's smooth and easy to spread. Watch closely though as you don't want to OVER thin! I have a LOT of Julep polish~ 4 full Julep caddies now and enough remaining polish in boxes to fill at least 2 more! I sometimes have a polish that is thicker but Polish thinner fixes that problem up in no time. Every collection should have have a bottle of thinner! Sorry,I got off topic there so~~back to Alfre. I wear this one often and always get compliments on it.It does seem to have a grayish tint to it so it looks fabulous with pink/purple and gray/taupe ensembles. It is really quite a flexible color. I find that this color seems to last longer and chip less than some other colors do.That's probably why I keep going back to this color so much!! Give it a try~it's not really as dark as it might look. You might get as pleasant a surprise as I did, but if it's not the color for you, use it for nail art or gift it to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Unexpected Love When I first received this polish I was very happy. I had never seen it here on the site, but in the bottle it looked like a nice gunmetal. I put it on my toes and soon noticed that sometimes it had a purple tint and almost thought maybe I was just crazy, but then I looked closer and realized it was actually purple instead! It was a neat surprise and I like it even more now!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from pretty but probably wouldn't choose again Alfre is pretty. It's a lavendary silver and actually quite neutral. Like a metallic gray as opposed to silver, if you know what I mean. I do think the color is true to the pictures so if you think you'll like it, you probably will. But, it took 3+ coats to get the opacity as pictured, AND it shrunk terribly with the Freedom Polymer topcoat. It looked shiny and smooth and after about 30 minutes it was literally pulling away from the edges and had ripples. So, cleaning your nails with vinegar first may help or even prevent this, but it still goes on really thinly and sheer so it's just not for me.
