Off to See the Wizard? Celebrate With Our New Oz-Inspired Nail Color Set

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 75 years since The Wizard of Oz was released. Tonight, the 86th Academy Awards honored the grand fantasy film’s anniversary, reminding us that its beautiful songs, rich imagery, and touching story remain as ingrained in our hearts as ever.

Funnily enough, when it was released in 1939, The Wizard of Oz lost its bid for Best Picture to a little film called Gone with the Wind. (Ever heard of it?) But it did win for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for “Over the Rainbow.” And tonight’s tribute made it clear that if there was an award for Most Beloved Movie, The Wizard of Oz would always clean up. So many lines from the movie have transcended mere quote status to become timeless phrases that still pop up everywhere you look. There’s no place like home. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog, too! And who hasn’t relished the opportunity to proclaim “Ding dong, the witch is dead!” at the perfect moment? Or teamed up with three friends to be Dorothy, Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion for Halloween? There’s just no way to overstate the hold that Oz still has on us.

With her blue gingham dress and ruby slippers, a young Judy Garland defined girl-next-door beauty as Dorothy, and her performance is still as enchanting as ever. Can you believe she was only 16 years old at the time—and that it was her first major film role? (Fun fact: MGM almost put Garland in a blonde wig with heavy baby doll makeup instead of her iconic red pigtails and more natural look. Thank goodness they ditched that idea!)

We could go on and on about how much we love The Wizard of Oz, and we know we’re not alone. That’s why we’re so excited to bring you The Wizard of Oz Collection, with four gorgeous Julep nail colors inspired by the legendary film:
